Why: Climate action and planning is occurring at the local, state, national, and international level to forward positive change. Ultimately, all climate actions and impacts are local. West Michigan Peoples’ Climate March partners are calling on all Michiganders to think climate global and act climate local. We need to build climate resilient communities right here in West Michigan.
• Resilient communities contribute fewer climate emissions to the atmosphere. Resilient communities are built, organized, and prepared to better respond to climate change impacts such as extreme heat and violent storms.
• Michigan needs state energy policies that require our utilities to increase our portfolio of clean energy by at least 1.5% annually. We need to eliminate energy waste. We should make our state energy portfolio at least 2% more efficient every single year. Energy efficiency is the cleanest, cheapest, and most quickly deployed energy source and climate solution available to Michiganders.
Americans have always responded to big challenges with big ideas, innovation, and hard work. In August, the President asked the American people to once again take on a global problem: climate change.
